Interesting Fact About Mars | Really Amazing Facts about Mars

Mars, the fourth planet from the sun is the seventh largest planet in our solar system named after the Roman god of war. It is referred to as the Red Planet, due to its red soil made up of iron oxide, more commonly known as rust.

Interesting Facts Of Mars :-
  • Mars has two moons. Both were discovered by Asaph Hall in 1877 after a long and frustrating search for Martian moons. The two moons are Deimos and Phobos. It is possible that the two moons may actually be asteroids caught in Mars’s gravity.
  • So many missions have disappeared that it has led scientists to wonder if something strange is happening. They refer to Mars as the “Bermuda Triangle” of the solar system, every thing goes dissappearing and never comes back.
  • Though Mars travels around the sun in an elliptical  orbit, just like other planets, its orbit is slightly more "stretched out" than most of the other planets.
  • The tallest mountain in the Solar System is the mighty Olympus Mons on Mars. It rises up 27 kilometers above the surrounding plains. Olympus Mons is a shield volcano, like Hawaii's Mauna Kea, and formed gradually over billions of years. Some lava flows on the volcano are so young that planetary scientists think that it might still be active.
  • It is not possible to stand out on the surface of Mars without a spacesuit, the freezing cold temperatures would is  a problem, but even worse is the thin atmosphere. The air pressure at the surface of Mars is only 1% the pressure we enjoy here on Earth. And the atmosphere on Mars consists of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon and trace amounts of water and oxygen.
